New Features in BiblioFile Version 1.6.3
Updated 10/19/2009.
For a list of all
features, see
BiblioFile features.
Enhancements
Version 1.6.3 contains several
significant new features.
Upgraders from Version 1.1 will notice that the registration process has been considerably
simplified. Version 1.6.3 is compatible with Windows Vista but
requires a special setup. See the instructions.
Modifications
- The following modifications have been applied in version 1.6.3:
- Multiple control numbers can now be saved to a single MARC record.
- Numeric-alpha-numeric control numbers can now be saved to a BiblioFile database. This is helpful for users with Canadian Control Numbers which previously were not recognized and were being overwritten by entirely numeric control numbers.
- Vista users can now use ‘localhost’ for the address of a stand-alone cataloging workstation. Vista users no longer need to disable IPv6 or use the address 127.0.0.1 when logging into Bibliofile
Note: Users in a networked environment should continue to use the IP of the workstation containing the database.
- The licensing has been updated to insure that current users will not be confronted with a software expiration notice.
- The Cataloger’s Reference Shelf has been updated to the latest MARC 21 Standards, including the recent Library of Congress decision making field 440 (Series Statement/Added Entry – Title) obsolete in the MARC 21 Bibliographic Format, recommending use of the 490/8XX combination.
Known Issues in Version 1.6.3
Version 1.6.3 provides full backwards compatibility for all major ITS for Windows features except card printing, which will be addressed in a future release. There are other minor issues in the current release (1.6.3) that will either be addressed in 1.7 or have been deferred pending user feedback. Learn more.
Upgrading from a prior BiblioFile version
Upgrading from prior versions of BiblioFile is easy. Download the new software or request it on CD from TLC Support. Run the Setup program and select the same options you selected when you installed BiblioFile. i.e., check or uncheck the software and database boxes depending on how your machine is configured. Take note, however, of the following caveats:
-
In a network environment, be sure to upgrade all client stations that use BiblioFile.
-
If you are upgrading from Version 1.1 in a network
environment, upgrade the server first, then the clients. Database changes made in Version 1.3 (and continued into future versions) are incompatible with the old 1.1 software.
-
If you are upgrading from Version 1.0, clear the label queue before upgrading. Label queuing was changed in Version 1.1. Version 1.0 queues are recognized as print queues in Versions 1.1 or later.
For more information, see the upgrade instructions.
