NACO LSP Usage:

Code n (Not applicable) is always used in this character position. Do not use code # (blank ), d, or i.

LC Usage:

LC has used code # (blank), meaning no attempt to code in most name authorities.

Prior to 1987, geographic subject headings (field 151 ) may contain code n or a fill character ( | ) in 008/06. Code n is changed to a # (blank) when the record is modified for any other reason.

LC does not use the following code: d (Subdivided geographically - direct).
