Guidelines for Usage: 008/09 Kind of record
NACO LSP Usage:
LC NACO must be consulted before code b (Untraced reference) is used in a reference record containing a 666 General Explanatory Reference - Name field.
Subject authorities are not within the scope of the present NACO LSP program. Do not use the following codes:
d Subdivision
e Node label
f Established heading and subdivision
g Reference and subdivision
Do not use the fill character ( | ) in this character position.
LC Usage:
LC has not implemented the the fill character ( | ) in this character position.
Names - LC rarely creates reference records containing a field 666 (General Explanatory Reference - Name); therefore, code b (Untraced reference) is rarely used in name authorities.
Subjects - LC does not distinguish between traced and untraced reference records. Code b is used in all reference records.
LC does not create subdivision records. Instead a reference record (code b) is used to record subdivision information: the subdivision term or name is contained in a 15X field and field 260 describes the usage.
LC does not use the following codes: c, d, e, f, g.
