666 General Explanatory Reference - Name (NR) (Variable Data Field)
Field 666 contains text that explains how names having a common characteristic (e.g., surnames with separately written prefixes) are entered in a file.
Field 666 is appropriate only in an untraced reference record .
NOTE:
The 1XX field
in the record contains the unestablished data element referred from.
Field 666 contains the explanatory information.
The heading in the 1XX field is not traced in a 4XX field in any established heading record for names beginning with the specified characteristic.

A cross reference
display may be generated from the 1XX and 666 fields of the reference record. A reference instruction phrase is incorporated into the text of subfield $a. Examples of complex cross reference displays are provided in Reference Note Fields: Complex Cross References
