Delimiter:
The delimiter is the first character of the two-character subfield code, and is followed by a data element identifier (lowercase alphabetic or numeric character). The delimiter is available to the user and is typically generated by automation system defined keystrokes. It is defined under MARC standards as being the ASCII character represented by the hexidecimal digit ASCII 1F hex. Many automation systems represent this value with a pound sign <#>, a dollar sign <$>, an at sign <@>, or an upside-down filled triangle. In this on-line Help, the delimiter is represented by the dollar sign <$>.
