Repeatability (007 Physical Description Fixed Field - Input Conventions)

Field 007 is repeatable to allow for coding different physical formats covered by the same cataloging record. For example, a record which describes a videocassette available in U-matic, Beta, and VHS formats will have three separate 007 fields. In this case, each 007 field may have the same categorical structure but different values that describe the different formats of the material.

When the item being cataloged has components that are in different material categories (e.g., a kit containing a map, a cassette, and a filmstrip), then the field is repeated for the different 007 structures needed for the different categories of material, unless an institution chooses not to input separate 007 fields. In such instances, an institution can input codes "zm" in 007/00-01.

When more than one aspect of a given character position is applicable, additional 007 field(s) are created to code the variant information.

Example:

300 ##$a1 map and 1 view :$bcol. ;$c45 x 78 cm. and 30 x 60 cm.

007 aj|canzn

007 ay|canzn
