A one-character alphabetic code indicates whether the film material is either part of a complete production, or is a preliminary production or post-production element. Materials described in this character position do not represent a complete work (i.e., a finished film).
If more than one production element is present on a reel, the code for the element the cataloging institution considers most important is given.
