305 Physical Description for Sound Recordings (Pre-AACR 2) (MU) [obsolete]:
With the revision of AACR 1 chapter 14 for Phonorecords in 1976, subfields $d (Microgroove or standard), $e (Stereophonic, monaural), and $f (Number of tracks) were made obsolete.
Field 305 was made obsolete in 1993. Both indicator positions were undefined. The subfield codes were: $a (Extent), $b (Other physical details), $c (Dimensions), $m (Serial identification), $n (Matrix and/or take number), and $6 (Linkage). Physical description data occurring in the pre-AACR 2 retrospective copy may be input as follows: Extent of item, other physical details, and dimensions can be recorded in field 300 (Physical Description) . Serial identification can be recorded in subfield $a (Publisher number) of field 028 (Publisher Number) . Matrix and take number can be recorded in subfield $a of field 028 with the first indicator set to 1 (Matrix). In field 028, subfield $b (Source) contains the same data found in subfield $b (Name of publisher, distributor, etc.) of field 260 (Publication, Distribution, Etc. (Imprint)) .
