355 Security Classification Control (R) (Variable Data Field)

Field definition and scope:

Field 355 contains specifics pertaining to the security classification associated with the document, title, abstract, contents note, and/or the author. In addition, it can contain handling instructions and external dissemination information pertaining to the dissemination of the document, title, abstract, contents note, and author. The field may also contain downgrading or declassification data, the name of the classification system, and a country of origin code.

The field is used with both classified and unclassified material. It is used when the security information is too specific to be handled by field 506 (Restrictions on Access Note) .

The field is repeatable when multiple classification and/or dissemination specifics are applicable to the record in hand.

The National level record requirement for this field is Mandatory if applicable.

Field 355 is repeatable .
