Character position definition and scope:

The Record status character position contains a one-character alphabetic code that indicates the relationship of the record to a file for file maintenance purposes.

Record requirements (National-level and Minimal-level) for Leader/05 for all types of material : Mandatory.

Validity by material type : Leader/05 and its codes in the table below are valid for all types.

Code:	Record status description:
a	Increase in encoding level
c	Corrected or revised
d	Deleted Indicates that the record has been deleted from the file.
n	New Indicates that the record is a newly input record.
p	Increase in encoding level from prepublication
