X30 First indicator: Value 0 - No nonfiling characters present [130, 630, 730]

Value 0 indicates that no initial article character positions are disregarded.

Diacritical marks or special characters at the beginning of a uniform title field that does not begin with an initial article are not counted as nonfiling characters.

Examples:

130 0#$a"Hsüan lai hsi kan" hsi lieh.

An initial definite or indefinite article may also simply be deleted in the formulation of the uniform title field.

If the initial article is retained but is not to be disregarded in sorting and filing processes, value 0 is used.

Example:

130 0#$aLos Angeles times.
