001 Control Number (NR) (Variable Control Field)
Field definition and scope:
Field 001 contains the control number assigned by the organization creating, using, or distributing the record. For interchange purposes, documentation of the structure of the control number and input conventions must be provided to exchange partners by the organization initiating the interchange.
The structure of the Library of Congress control number is described in field 010 (Library of Congress Control Number) . The control number in records distributed by LC is contained in field 001.
Field 001 is NOT repeatable . It has no indicators or subfield codes . This field may be system generated.
