700 - 75X Index Terms (Variable Data Field)
Definition and scope:
The 700-75X fields contain index terms that supplement terms contained in data in the USMARC record. Fields 700-751 and 754 contain controlled subject access terms that provide subject access to the classification number or number span in field 153 (Classification Number). These fields are patterned after the 600-651 and 654 subject added entry fields in the USMARC Format for Bibliographic Data and, except for the absence of bibliographic subfields $4 and $6, the defined indicators and subfield codes are the same as those listed in the Bibliographic Data section of this help system. The additional subfields defined for some of these fields in classification data records are listed this section. Field 753 is a special-use classification data field.
