Delimiter:
The delimiter is the first character of the two-character subfield code, and is followed by a data element identifier (lowercase alphabetic or numeric character). The delimiter is available to the user and is typically generated by automation system defined keystrokes. USMARC standards define this character as being the ASCII representation of hexidecimal digit 1F16. Many automation systems represent this value with a pound sign <#>, a dollar sign <$>, an at sign <@>,or an upside-down filled triangle. In this on-line Help system, the delimiter is represented by the dollar sign <$>.
