0E. Language and script of the description (General Rules)


In the following areas give information transcribed from the film of videorecording or from other sources in the language in which it appears. For more information about choice of title, see 1. Title and statement of responsibility . For questions about romanization see AACR2. When there is uncertainty as to the translation into English of credit or distribution functions, use the terminology as it appears on the item or other sources. When there is a direct translation for credit and distribution/release functions, use the English terms for these functions.

In general, give interpolations into the above areas (title, statement of responsibility, edition statement, and series statement) in the language and script of the other data in the area. Exceptions to this are:

point_b2.gif prescribed interpolations and abbreviations

point_b2.gif general material designations if they are used (see 1C .)

point_b2.gif statement of credit functions when a direct English translation can be determined

point_b2.gif statements of function of the releaser, distributor , etc. when the context is unclear and a direct English translation can be determined

If the other data are Romanized (converted from text not written in the roman alphabet, such as Japanese, to the roman-alphabet form) give interpolations according to the same romanization.

Give all elements in the other areas (other than titles and quotations in notes) in the language of the cataloging archive.
