1D2. Other types of parallel titles (Title and Statement of Responsibility)
In addition to the concept of a parallel title being the original release title in another language, moving image archives recognize certain titles, regardless of language, as titles of significant and equal importance as the original release title, and treat such titles as parallel titles.
Use the parallel title area to include the title, other than the original release title, by which the moving image work in hand is well known to users and researchers, e.g., the American release title of a British work, when the archive holds the American release copy. Explanatory notes should always be included to explain parallel titles in the same language as the original release title. Discretion and judgment must be used to determine which titles should be placed in the parallel title area and which should be placed in the note area. Only in exceptional instances should multiple parallel titles in the same language appear in the parallel title area. Titles which, in most instances, should be placed in the note area are: translations of titles into other languages, release titles in other countries, script, working or pre-release titles, copyright titles, inventory or storage titles, abbreviated or nickname titles, obscure titles found in research. Titles of related works, novels, plays, etc. should be included in notes, not as parallel titles. See also 7B6 ., 7B7 ., and 7B9 .
