International Federation of Film Archives:

FIAF was founded in 1939 for the puposes of promoting the preservation of film as art and historical document, and for facilitating cooperation among its members in the fulfillment of their common aims. Membership is limited to non-profit film archives (governmental or nongovernmental) which operate on a national level. Currently there are some ninety members of FIAF from Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. FIAF’s main interests center around the professional work of film archivists. Areas requiring highly specialized knowledge and expertise include cataloging, documentation, and preservation. For these areas, FIAF has established Commissions. The Commissions are composed of small groups of individuals appointed by the Executive Committee for their recognized expertise rather than s representatives from the member archives. The Commissions propose standards, prepare publications, and provide practical advice to member archive to member archives in their special areas of knowledge.
