003 Control Number Identifier (NR) (Variable Control Fields)
Field Definition and Scope:
This field contains the USMARC code for the system whose control number is contained in field 001 (Control Number) . The source of the code in Symbols of American Libraries that is maintained by the Library of Congress.
An organization using a USMARC record from another system and putting its own number in field 001 (Control Number) must also use its own USMARC code in field 003.
Input Conventions:
Field 003 is usually system generated.
