Field 003 contains the USMARC code for the agency whose system control number is present in field 001 (Control Number). The source of this code is Symbols of American Libraries, which is maintained by the Library of Congress.
Field 003 does not appear in online records on OCLC.
Usage/Distribution:
Field 003 is system-generated by OCLC and carries in records distributed on tape to the Library of Congress as: 003 ## OCoLC. When LC processes the tape of CONSER records for distribution, the OCLC control number is moved into field 035 , the LC control number in field 010 is added to field 001 , and field 003 is changed to: 003 ## DLC.
