Description/Instructions:
Field 890 is a local field used by LC to record its serial record visible file entry. Although output to LC, it is not part of the communications format and is not distributed to subscribers.
Prior to August 1983 this field was used by LC to record holdings of permanent custodial divisions. It was principally used in newspaper records.
The serial record visible file entry is assigned by the serial cataloger in accordance with the Serial Record Division Manual, M19. The field should always end with a period, closing parenthesis, or make of omission. Example:
