A word, phrase, or abbreviation indicating the bibliographic unit into which a serial or multipart item has been divided by the publisher. A caption ordinarily appears on the piece immediately preceding the enumeration. Examples of captions are: volume, Band, Heft, part, number, tome, side, (for a sound recording disc).
