A formatted contents note (tag 505) can be either complete or incomplete or partial in scope. Generally, a complete contents note (tag 505 0) lusts all of the items covered by the physical description area. An exception is made for the situation where every item on the recto is a map or an inset.
An incomplete contents note (tag 505 1) is usually used for a map series/set or multipart item that is still being published and lists all of the items covered by the physical description area that have been received. When the items are numbered buy there is a break in the numbering of the listed items three spaces are left for the missing item.
A partial contents note (tag 505 2) includes only a selection of the items covered by the physical description area.
