Pictorial Map:
The note Pictorial map may be used when pictures, line drawings, etc., appear within the borders of an item. These pictures are normally not to scale and cannot be construed to be cartographic symbols, but are used to depict historical events, buildings, animal life, etc. It is impossible to define a specific amount of pictorial matter that must be present to support the use of the note Pictorial map. Each case must be decided individually, considering the appearance, effect, size, purpose, etc., of the pictorial elements. This note may be used on any item to which it applies, regardless of the items classification.
When a particular kind of picture can be more adequately described by a descriptive note rather than by the standard Pictorial map note, such a descriptive note may be devised. Examples:
