When the "imprint" statement on the item includes the designation National Mapping Center, base the publication, distribution, etc. area on the information that appears on the item.

For items published before 1982 transcribe or supply the appropriate regional center location as the place of publication. Examples:

For an item published in Fort Worth in 1982 or later that does not mention either the National Cartographic Center or the National Mapping Center in the "imprint" statement, base the publication, distribution, etc., area of the information and supply an appropriate distribution statement based on the geographic coverage. Do not provide descriptive access to the National Cartographic Center. Example:
