Special Applications and Instructions:
General Maps:
The subject subdivisions --Maps, --Maps, Tourist, and --Road maps are all considered general headings, and the maps to which they apply are considered general maps.
The use of two of the three general headings on the same work should be justified by the title, alternate title, series, or overall publishers intent, often clarified by a shows note. Examples:
The use of either --Maps, Tourist, or --Road maps in conjunction with a heading subdivided by --Maps is reserved for instances of actual need; however, items classed as a general map, but considered for classification as a tourist map and/or a road map, based on content, wording, or publishers intent, may be assigned secondary tracings for [Place--Road maps and/or [Place]--Maps, Tourist. Conversely, items considered for classification as a general map but actually classed as a road map or a tourist map may be assigned a secondary tracing for [Place]--Maps without special justification.
