History:

There is no single heading that is generally used in conjunction with items classed with subject Cutter category S since history headings are usually based on the history of the particular area involved. The following miscellaneous guidelines, however, may be of help.

The heading [Place]--History--Maps is used for works that show historic cites, events, etc. for an area over a period of time comprising much or all of its history.

Individual forts, battles, sieges, etc. are established and used as subject headings for maps depicting the individual events. Skirmishes which took place within a larger battle are usually not traced. The heading for the battle is used instead.

The specific heading for a battle, fort, etc. is usually not accompanied by a general tracing of [Place]--History--Maps or Fortifications--[Place]--Maps.
