A one-character alphabetic code indicates whether field 153 Classification Number) contains a standard or optional classification number or span in the classification scheme identified in field 084 (Classification Scheme and Edition. A standard classification number or span is from the standard part of the schedules or tables. An optional classification number or span is an officially recognized optional alternative to the standard part of the schedules or tables.
