Field definition and scope:

Field 084 contains information that identifies the authoritative classification scheme used to formulate the number caption in field 153 (Classification Number).

The field includes the edition that contains the classification number(s) and term(s) in the record.  It also may indicate the edition title, date, and language of a particular version of the classification scheme.  If a library creates its own record for a classification number maintained by another classification source, the classification scheme on which it is based is specified in field 084 and the library creating the record is identified in field 040 (Record Source).

Field 084 is NOT repeatable.
