12.1.3. Change of treatment - Example 2:

This is a more complex series authority record in that the series has been treated in different ways. Numbers 1-45 were collected under the call number, TL521.A323 and were analyzed in part (i.e., some titles in the series were cataloged, others were not). Beginning with no. 46, all titles in the series are cataloged separately and given their own call number.

Explanation:

line 1 = Control number

line 2 = Originating, inputting, and modifying agencies (DGPO/DLC indicates that this series was input by the U.S. Government Printing Office from their authority file)

line 3 = Call number ($a, $b) and numbers for which it is associated ($d)

line 4 = Heading for series

line 11 = Form of numbering as it would be transcribed in the series tracing. The $5 DLC indicates that this was determined by LC and is to be used in LC records.

line 12 = Place and publisher/issuing body of series

line 13-14 = Series analysis practice

line 13: f = analyzed in full; $d no. 46- indicated that this is the practice beginning with no. 46

line 14: p = analyzed in part; $d no. 1-45 indicates that this practice applied to these numbers

line 15 = Series tracing practice: t = traced

line 16-17 = Series classification practice

line 16: 2 = classified separately; $d no. 46- indicates that this practice applied to numbers beginning with no. 46 and is the current practice

line 17: c = collected; $d no. 1-45 indicated that these numbers were collected under the call number found in field 050 (line 3)

line 18 = "nonpublic general note." In this case, the note explains that the series is a government document. The note is called "nonpublic" because it may or may not be phrased in a manner that would be understandable to the general public.
