A serial that is related to another serial in a manner that is not expressed by one of the other linking fields and that is separately cataloged falls into this category. Such publications includes cumulations, indexes, abstracts, summaries, and companion publications. The second stipulation is important to note since publications such as indexes and cumulations are sometimes recorded on the same record rather than being treated as separate serials (see Module 17). For those that are cataloged separately, a linking entry field is generally given.

Because there are many types of relationships that can be included in field 787, most print programs do not include a print constant for field 787 and field 580 is necessary to provide a note for the specific relationship. Example:
