Module 17. Summary
When a serial
is related to another work, decide first whether the related work is a
monograph
or a serial.
If the related work is a serial,
decide whether it should be cataloged separately or mentioned in a note
on the record for the main serial.
In making the decision, consider
the factors that are relevant for the type of related work and the various
options for cataloging. Is there a clear-cut choice or does the decision
have to be made on a case-by-case basis?
When cataloging the related work
as a separate serial, decide what is needed in the way of a link, note,
and added
entry.
When the related wok is cataloged
separately as a monograph, an added entry for the serial is given on the
monograph record. If appropriate, a note may be added to the serial record
but not a link.
