Electronic resources open up a whole new world of possibilities for publishing in a variety of formats:

1.  A title may be published in both print and electronic serial formats, perhaps with some content differences.

245 00 $a Books in print

245 00 $a Books in print plus $h [electronic resource].

2.  More than one publisher may offer the same title in the same electronic resource format.

CD-ROM versions of ERIC are published by DIALOG Information Service, OCLC, and SilverPlatter.

3.  Some electronic serials are available for use on more than one platform.

A-V online is available for use with IBM PC-compatible or Macintosh systems.

4.  Some titles are available online (either purchased and locally mounted on a central system, or mounted externally and available via a dial-up, fee-based access arrangement) as well as in direct access electronic serial format and in print.

The use of uniform titles for electronic serials is important to distinguish them from other serials with identical titles, whether print or other format.

Provide a uniform title for a direct access electronic serial in the following situations:

1.  Like any other serial, a direct access electronic serial will require a uniform title if there is an unrelated publication in the database with the same title.  In this case, the qualifier is prescribed by LCRI 25.5B for routine conflicts.

130 0# $a Broadcast news (Camden, N.J.)

245 10 $a Broadcast news.

260 ## $a Camden, N.J. : $b RCA Victor Company, $c 1931-

130 0# $a Broadcast news (Woodbridge, Conn.)

245 10 $a Broadcast news $h [electronic resource].

260 ## $a Woodbridge, CT : $b Research Publications International, $c 1993-

2.  If a print title and its electronic counterpart have the same title, provide a uniform title indicating the specific format according to LCRI 25.5B, which treats an electronic serial as a separate work rather than "a secondary manifestation" of a print serial.

Print serial:

245 00 $a Biography and genealogy master index.

260 ## $a Detroit, Mich. : $b Gale Research Co., $c c1980-

300 ## $a v. ; $c 29 cm.

Serial on CD-ROM:

130 0# $a Biography and genealogy master index (CD-ROM)

245 10 $a Biography and genealogy master index $h [electronic resource].

260 ## $a Detroit : $b Gale Research, Inc. $c c1993-

300 ## $a CD-ROMs ; $c 4 3/4 in.

Print serial:

130 0# $a Anuario estadístico (Ushuaia, Argentina)

245 10 $a Anuario estadístico.

260 ## $a Ushuaia : $b Territorio Nacional de la Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur, Ministerio de Economía y Hacienda, Dirección General de Programación y Desarrollo Económico

300 ## $a v. : $b ill. ; $c 28 cm.

Serial on floppy disk:

130 0# $a Anuario estadístico (Ushuaia, Argentina : Diskette)

245 10 $a Anuario estadístico $h [electronic resource] / $c Tierra del Fuego.

300 ## $a v. : $b ill. ; $c 28 cm.

3.  If an electronic serial is published in various editions, a uniform title will also be necessary (LCRI 25.5B).

130 0# $a Datapro software finder (Complete ed.)

245 10 $a Datapro software finder $h [electronic resource].

250 ## $a Complete ed.

130 0# $a Datapro software finder (Microcomputer ed.)

245 10 $a Datapro software finder $h [electronic resource].

250 ## $a Microcomputer ed.

130 0# $a Datapro software finder (Mid-range/mainframe ed.)

245 10 $a Datapro software finder $h [electronic resource].

250 ## $a Mid-range/mainframe ed.

4.  A serial that was issued in one format (print, CD-ROM, etc.) may change to another format while retaining the same title.  On the new record, provide a uniform title with a qualifier based on the format of the new serial.  (See also CCM 30.18 on title changes resulting from changes in format.)

Earlier title (print):

245 00 $a Index translationum.

362 1# $a Ceased with v. 39 in 1989.

Later title (CD-ROM):

130 0# $a Index translationum (CD-ROM)

245 10 $a Index translationum $h [electronic resource].

362 0# $a 1994-

5.  Direct access electronic versions may be published for different platforms (e.g., Macintosh, MS-DOS, etc.).  There has been much discussion among the CONSER catalogers over whether there should be one or two records for titles published for two different platforms.  For titles that contain data that can be used for either platform, only one record is necessary.  However, for products published with search and retrieval software that runs on a specific operating system, two records are preferable.  A uniform title should be constructed using terms describing the physical medium.

Macintosh version:

130 0# $a Bibliography of well-log applications annual update (Macintosh version)

245 10 $a Bibliography of well-log applications annual update $h [electronic resource].

530 ## $a Issued also in paper, microfiche and IBM versions.

IBM version:

130 0# $a Bibliography of well-log applications annual update (IBM version)

245 10 $a Bibliography of well-log applications annual update $h [electronic resource].

530 ## $a Issued also in paper, microfiche, and Macintosh versions.
