Field definition and scope:

Field 031 is used to contain coded data representing the musical incipit for music using established notation schemes that employ ordinary ASCII symbols.  It is primarily used to identify music manuscripts, but can be applied to any material containing music.

The National level record requirement for this field is Optional.

Field 031 is repeatable.
