Field definition and scope:

Field 360 contains the explanatory text and the headings referred to that are required when relationships exist between established subjects that cannot be adequately conveyed by one or more simple cross references generated from 5XX See Also From Tracing fields.  A phrase such as search also under: may be generated for display.

Field 360 is appropriate only in established heading records or established heading and subdivision records for subjects.

The 1XX field in the record contains the established subject heading referred from.

Field 360 contains the explanatory text for the see also reference and the other established headings referred to.

The heading in the 1XX field is generally not traced in a 5XX field in the records for the subject headings referred to in field 360.  Instead, the 1XX heading is noted in a 681 (Subject Example Tracing Note) field in the record for each subject heading referred to in the 360 field.

See examples under the description of subfield $i (Explanatory text).

A cross reference display may be constructed from the 1XX and 360 fields of the record.  Reference instructions may be a combination of a tag-related phrase and text in subfield $i.  Examples of complex cross reference displays are provided in Reference Note Fields:  Complex Cross References.

The National level record requirement for this field is Mandatory if applicable.

Field 360 is repeatable.
