Field definition and scope:

Field 641 contains a note describing irregularities in the report year coverage and/or numbering of a series named in the 1XX field of an established heading record for a series.  It may also contain a citation for the source of the information.  Distinct items of information are contained in separate 641 fields.

When field 641 is used, field 008/13 (Numbered or unnumbered series) contains code a or c.

Changes or variations in a series numbering that is to be used in a bibliographic record are contained in field 642 (Series Numbering Example).

The extent of volumes within a series is contained in field 640 (Series Dates of Publication and/or Sequential Designation).

The National level record requirement for this field is Optional.

Field 641 is repeatable.
