Definition and scope:

Fields 100, 110, 111, and 130 contain a name (100-111) or a uniform title (130) heading used as a main entry.

For mixed material, this idea of authorship is not always clear-cut.  The main entry may contain the name of the person, family, or entity responsible for bringing the materials together.  Alternatively, the main entry may contain the name of the person, family, or entity for whom or which a collection is named.

The National Level Record requirement for the 1XX fields is Mandatory if applicable.  Except for differences in the definitions of indicator values, content designation in the 1XX fields is consistent across all Formats.
