0D. Prescribed Sources of Information (General Rules)
The description is divided into areas and each area is divided into a number of elements as set out in the particular rules. For each area of description certain sources of information are specially indicated (see the table below), which, for the sole purpose of applying the convention of bracketing, are designated "prescribed sources." (For the preferred order of sources of information, see the particular rules for each area.) Transcription of data from other sources is possible, depending on the particular rules; such data are enclosed within square brackets unless specifically indicated otherwise in the relevant rule.
