NUC map records are the result of a cooperative effort between the reporting institution and LC G&M. The primary objective of the editing and conversion program is to bring the records into conformance with LC standards to maximize the retrievability and usefulness of the records and maintain the overall integrity of the database.

The conversion to an LC record, which is implemented when a matching NUC record is discovered during the cataloging process is to be viewed as an extension of the NUC editing process. Since all NUC online records have been edited based on information reported by an outside institution, the most important aspects of the conversion will be the integration of the corresponding item into G&M’s collection and the completion of the editing process based on relevant information on the item that is not reflected in the record.
