Contents Notes - Cross Section:

A cross section is a graphic representation of a hypothetical "slice" through the earth’s surface that provides a vertical view of the sub-surface of the earth.

Cross sections may be drawn to scale.

The line within the cross section that represents the intersection of the sub-surface information with the surface of the earth is more precisely referred to as a profile. In the absence of sub-surface information in this type of representation, the more specific term profile is preferred.

Example:

Includes 4 geological cross sections.
