In MARC 21 documents, character set subsets are specified by the following names with the definition indicated:

ASCII numerics: Graphic repertoire and encoding found in ASCII positions 30(hex) through 39(hex).

ASCII uppercase alphabetics: Graphic repertoire and encoding found in ASCII positions 41(hex) through 4F(hex) and 50(hex) through 5A(hex).

ASCII lowercase alphabetics: Graphic repertoire and encoding found in ASCII positions 61(hex) through 6F(hex) and 70(hex) through 7A(hex).

ASCII graphic symbols: Graphic repertoire and encoding found in ASCII positions 20(hex) through 2F(hex), 3A(hex) through 3F(hex), 40(hex), 5B(hex) through 5F(hex), 60(hex), and 7B(hex) through 7E(hex), which includes all ASCII characters other than numerics, alphabetics and delete.

ASCII graphics: All ASCII characters (including numerics, alphabetics and graphic symbols) found in positions 20(hex) through 7E(hex).

ASCII blank: Graphic character in ASCII position 20(hex).

MARC 21 repertoire: All characters defined in this document and other character set documentation specified for use in MARC 21, whether encoding using MARC-8 or UCS/Unicode encodings.
