BACKGROUND:  Until 1971 all information recorded on the temporary shelflist card was handwritten on the printed card when the printed shelflist card was filed.  To expedite filing of cards, the Shelflist Information Card (SLIC) was implemented in 1971 and was used until the shelflist was closed in 1999.  The Shelflist Information Card (SLIC) was used to record a variety of information that did not appear on the 3 x 5 card and may not appear on the printed card.

SLICs always included the date of shelflisting.  Permanent information was written in ink, temporary information in pencil.
