Consecutive numbers:

Continuous numbers that do not repeat (i.e., go back to "1").  Examples are serials that have numbered issues (e.g., no. 1, no. 2, etc.) and most volume numbers.  Consecutive numbering can occur at any level within the numeric designation (e.g., v. 3, no. 800).  (CCM)
