Delimiter:
The delimiter is the first character of the two-character subfield code, and is followed by a data element identifier (lowercase alphabetic or numeric character). The delimiter is available to the user and is typically generated by automation system defined keystrokes. MARC standards define this character as being the ASCII representation of hexadecimal 1F hex. Many automation systems represent this value with a pound sign <#>, a dollar sign <$>, an at sign <@>, or an upside down filled triangle. In this online Help, the delimiter is represented by the dollar sign <$>.
