Record requirements:  The National level record requirement for the named event fields is Mandatory if applicable, except for field 747 which is Optional.  For the national level requirements by subfield, see the specific field.

Field repeatability:  See the specific field for its repeatability.

Guidelines for applying content designators:

The content designators identify the subelements occurring in named event headings constructed according to generally accepted thesaurus-building conventions (e.g., Faceted Application of Subject Terminology (FAST)).

Named events are those which cannot be regarded as responsible agents, e.g., battles, earthquakes, famines, financial crises, fires, hurricanes, riots, strikes, volcanic eruptions, wars, etc.

Named events which can be regarded as responsible agents such as meetings or conferences as well as athletic contests, competitions, expeditions, expositions, fairs, festivals, sports events, tournaments, etc., are recorded in X11 fields.

The indicators, subfield codes, and input conventions for the named event fields 147, 447, 547, and 747 follow similar patterns.  Guidelines for applying them are below.  Subfields are grouped by type of entry.
