Field definition and scope:

Field 055 contains either a complete call number or a classification number that is assigned by Library and Archives Canada (LAC) or a library contributing to LAC, except for those numbers assigned from the National Library of Medicine classification system, the Universal Decimal Classification, and the Dewey Decimal Classification.  These latter numbers are input in fields 060 (National Library of Medicine Call Number), 080 (Universal Decimal Classification Number), and 082 (Dewey Decimal Classification Number), respectively.  Note that call numbers/class numbers to be recorded in field 055 include those assigned from the Library of Congress classification schedules, including those from schedules specially developed by Library and Archives Canada for Canadian history and literature.

The National level record requirement for this field is Optional.

Field 055 is repeatable.
