1D. Other title information

1D1. Transcribe other title information appearing on the title page in the order indicated by the sequence on, or layout of, the title page. Transcribe other title information not appearing on the title page in a note whenever it is considered important.

1D2. Ordinarily transcribe other titles or phrases following the title proper as other title information even if they are linked to the title proper by a preposition, conjunction, prepositional phrase, etc. Example 1

When statements of this kind appear following the statement of responsibility, punctuate them as subsequent statement of responsibility (cf. 1G14 ).

If these other titles or phrases constitute a formal statement of the contents of the work, however, give them in the note area (cf. 7C16 ) unless they are an inseparable part of the title proper or of other title information. When these formal statements are omitted from the title and statement of responsibility area, use the mark of omission. Example 2

Distinguish the above situations from those in which the titles of the other works are given equal prominence with the first-named work (cf. 1E1 ).

1D3. Generally treat statements such as "in two volumes" as other title information (cf. also 2B8 ).

1D4. When other title information is very lengthy and can be abridged without loss of essential information, omit less important words or phrases, using the mark of omission. If desired, give in a note other title information not transcribed (including the other titles or phrases referred to in 1D2 ).

1D5. If the other title information includes a statement of responsibility or an element belonging to another area, and the element is an inseparable part of the other title information according to one or more of the conditions enumerated in 1B1, transcribe it as such. Example

1D6. Transcribe parallel other title information in the order in which it appears on the title page.
