4D1. General Rule
The basic date for this area is the year of publication or printing. Transcribe this date from the publication, together with the day and month, if present. Example1
Also transcribe words and phrases such as "printed in the year" and "anno" as part of this element. When both the place and the date of printing appear in conjunction with the phrase "printed in the year," ordinarily determine whether "printed" goes with the place or with the date according to the punctuation or typography of the source. Example 2
If the date is inseparably linked to data transcribed as part of another element or area according to one or more of the conditions enumerated in 1B1, transcribe it with the data to which it is linked and repeat it in square brackets as the date element of the publication, etc., area.
