040 Record Source (NR) (Variable Data Field)
Field definition and scope:
Field 040 contains the MARC code or the name of the organization(s) that created the original record, assigned MARC content designation and transcribed the record into machine-readable form, or modified an existing MARC record. The MARC codes or names in field 040 specify the responsible parties for the content, content designation, and transcription of a community information record. See Appendix G for a listing of organization code sources used in MARC 21 records.
Field 040 is NOT repeatable.
