Character position definition and scope:

A one-character alphabetic code indicates the type of material used for the secondary support for nonprojected graphic material.  Secondary support refers to the material (other than normal museum matting) to which the primary support (defined in position 007/04) is attached.  This character position is coded only when the mount or mat is of historical, informational, aesthetic, or archival importance.  A fill character ( | ) is used when no attempt has been made to code this position.

Record requirements for National-level and Minimal-level records:  Optional.
