Character position definition and scope:

Six character positions contain the most recent film inspection date.  The film inspection date may be the date the item was cataloged or the date it was viewed.

Record requirements for National-level and Minimal-level records:  Optional.

Guidelines for applying content designators:

The film inspection date is recorded in the pattern yyyymm (century/year/month).  A hyphen is used for any unknown portion of the date.  If the date is completely unknown, six hyphens are recorded.

Six fill characters ( |||||| ) are used when no attempt has been made to code this data element.

Prior to the definition of this character position in 1985, the film inspection date was coded in field 009 (Physical Description Fixed Field for Archival Collection) /11-14 (Film inspection date).

007/17-22  Film inspection date  [CAN/MARC only]:  Prior to the definition of this character position, the film inspection date was coded in field 009/16-19 for Visual Materials (Film inspection date).
